Domaine Jean Tardy et Fils is a Nuits-Saint-Georges-based family estate managed by Guillaume Tardy, who has significantly raised the profile of the domaine over the past decade. Known primarily for a well-priced Echezeaux Grand Cru and a reliable range of Nuits-Saint-Georges premiers crus, the estate also produces wines at the regional level that demonstrate the same careful viticulture and minimal-intervention philosophy applied across the range. The Cuvee Maelie is the estate's Bourgogne Hautes Cotes de Nuits rouge, a regional appellation sourced from higher-elevation vineyards west of and behind the Cote de Nuits escarpment. These sites, typically above 350 metres, produce Pinot Noir of a fresh, lighter-bodied style with distinct herbal and mineral character. The cuvee name refers to a member of the Tardy family. The 2023 vintage, warm and generous across Burgundy, produced fruit of good natural ripeness in these elevated sites. Bourgogne Hautes Cotes de Nuits from serious estate producers has carved out a niche among informed buyers seeking Nuits-area character at regional appellation prices. As an entry-level release from Jean Tardy, this cuvee serves as a useful introduction to the estate's style and provides honest drinking while buyers await their more structured village and premier cru allocations. Drink now through 2027. An easy companion for charcuterie, roast chicken or light pasta dishes. Serve slightly cool at 14 to 15 degrees Celsius. Bright ruby red. The nose is fresh and aromatic with red cherry, dried herbs, light violet and a mineral note from the higher-elevation terroir. The palate is light-to-medium bodied with fine tannins, fresh acidity and a clean, herbal finish. Approachable and well-crafted for the regional classification. |
