Château Hosanna’s 2010 is produced from the Moueix family’s 4.5-hectare Pomerol estate from a vintage widely acknowledged as one of the finest Bordeaux years since the legendary 1982, combining extraordinary structural depth with the freshness and mineral precision that the 2010 growing season consistently delivered across all the Médoc’s principal appellations and the clay-dominant soils of Pomerol. After the 2008 vintage offered in Batch 17, the 2010 Hosanna represents the estate in a genuinely great year rather than a merely good one: a vintage in which the Pomerol plateau’s deep clay and gravel soils produced Merlot of exceptional concentration, mineral depth and ageing potential that has proved, over the fifteen years since harvest, to be one of the finest expressions of this appellation’s potential in the twenty-first century. For a wine as small in production and as precisely terroir-located as Hosanna, the 2010 vintage’s exceptional conditions should have produced a wine of outstanding character and longevity whose appeal to the most serious Pomerol collectors can only have increased with additional time in the cellar. The 2010 Bordeaux vintage was exceptional for its combination of very warm growing conditions with the natural freshness that the clay-dominant Pomerol plateau reliably provides through its water retention and thermal regulation properties, producing wines of remarkable concentration alongside the freshness and mineral depth that distinguishes the finest Pomerol from the more purely powerful right-bank expressions of warmer years. Hosanna’s specific terroir position adjacent to Pétrus and Lafleur on the plateau’s finest section provides one of Pomerol’s most privileged growing environments, and in a vintage of this calibre, the wine’s exceptional quality relative to its commercial profile is further highlighted. The 2010 Hosanna is one of the most compelling Pomerol acquisitions in this catalogue: a wine from one of the plateau’s finest and smallest estates, in one of the great Bordeaux vintages of the modern era, at a stage of development where its full complexity is beginning to reveal itself, at a commercial price that reflects the wine’s fifth-growth-equivalent profile rather than its first-growth terroir position. |
