Tasting Note :

Pluribus, which takes its name from the Latin for “many,” reflects the multiple aspects involved in creating a fine wine: sun, soil, climate and the human element. It debuted in the 2003 vintage and has steadily built a reputation as perhaps the most consistently impressive wine in the Bond portfolio, defined by dark, concentrated fruit and formidable structure derived from its steep and demanding mountain site. Antonio Galloni of Vinous described the 2014 as the most improved Bond wine.

The seven-acre Pluribus vineyard sits on the dramatic slopes of Spring Mountain in the northwestern part of the Napa Valley, at elevations exceeding 1,100 feet, with a volcanic bedrock soil and steep exposures to the north, east and southeast. This challenging terrain forces the vine to work for every nutrient, producing small berries of exceptional concentration and a wine that is defined by its power, structure and dark fruit depth. Fermentation is carried out almost exclusively in small French oak barrels.

Pluribus attracted the highest scores in the 2014 Bond portfolio, with James Suckling awarding 98 points and Vinous 97, confirming its position as one of the most exciting Spring Mountain Cabernets produced in the valley. In 2016, Robert Parker named the 2013 Pluribus on his list of “20 Most Extraordinary Red Wines,” giving the site a further boost to its already considerable reputation. The 2014 is a more structured and powerful release than its Melbury stable-mate, requiring additional time in bottle.

Inky blue-purple in colour with aromas of crushed black plums, blackcurrant cordial, pencil shavings and charcoal, with hints of Chinese five spice and lavender. Full-bodied and firmly framed on the palate with chewy tannins and a lively backbone, finishing long and mineral. Best approached from 2026 onwards.

This is the best Pluribus yet. Extremely aromatic with forest floor, currants and blackberries. Full body, ultra-fine tannins immaculately polished, and an extremely long finish swathed in flavours of walnuts, chocolate and fruit. Glorious and subtle.  — James Suckling

Inky blue and purplish fruit, lavender, mint, plum and licorice infuse this super-expressive, resonant Spring Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon. The most improved Bond wine – this flight of 2014 makes that quite evident.  — Vinous
