Andre Heucq is a small grower-producer based in Cuisles in the Vallee de la Marne, a village whose vineyards are dominated by Pinot Meunier, the variety with which the Heucq estate has established its distinctive identity. The Coteaux Champenois Meunier Blanc is a still, unfermented wine: Pinot Meunier vinified as a white wine through immediate pressing (blanc de noirs technique) without skin contact, producing a still Champenois white of a category extremely rare outside the handful of Marne Valley estates who specialise in it. Coteaux Champenois is the appellation for still wines produced within the Champagne delimited zone, representing a tiny fraction of the region's total production and found almost exclusively among artisan grower-producers committed to expressing the full potential of their terroir in multiple formats. A still white wine from Pinot Meunier occupies a genuinely unusual niche: the variety's naturally warm, spiced fruit character, when expressed as a white wine without secondary fermentation, produces a profile unlike anything produced elsewhere in France. Andre Heucq's focus on Meunier across both the still and sparkling categories reflects a deliberate philosophy of celebrating the variety's potential at every level. The Coteaux Champenois Blanc from Meunier is a wine of genuine curiosity value for buyers interested in the full spectrum of what Champagne's terroir can produce, particularly for specialists in the artisan Champagne sector who have already explored the range's sparkling wines. Drink from 2023 to 2027. Best served slightly cool at 12 degrees in a broad white wine glass. Pair with poached white fish, chicken with cream sauce, light vegetable preparations or mild fresh cheese. Pale straw gold. The nose shows a distinctive combination of white fruit, the characteristic spiced warmth of Meunier and a fine mineral note from the Marne Valley's limestone-chalk subsoil. The palate is medium-bodied with good acidity, a lightly textured mid-palate and a clean, lingering finish with a faint Meunier bitterness. Genuinely unusual; instructive for students of Champagne terroir. |
