The Barolo Falletto Vigna Le Rocche in the white label is the standard, non-Riserva expression of Bruno Giacosa’s most prestigious Serralunga d’Alba single vineyard, produced annually when conditions at the Le Rocche parcel meet the estate’s very high standards but do not merit the extended ageing and red label distinction of the Riserva. In practice, the white label Le Rocche is itself a wine of outstanding quality, receiving consistent scores from the approved publications in the 94 to 98 point range, and its more modest ageing requirement compared to the Riserva makes it both more accessible in its youth and still capable of long development in the finest cellars. The 2019 is the most recent release from this designation and represents a vintage of outstanding quality in Barolo. James Suckling awarded the 2019 Le Rocche 98 points, describing “gorgeous aromas of roses that fill the glass along with ripe strawberries, raspberries and forest fruits,” noting it is “very structured” with “finely toned tannins that are tight, sleek and racy,” with a recommendation to “try after 2028.” Wine Advocate assigned 96+ points, describing a “generous and expansive wine” that “hits the palate from all sides” with “dark fruit, rusty earth, wet clay and blood orange,” noting “another bottle to rest at the back of your cellar.” The 2019 Barolo vintage was outstanding, producing wines of extraordinary aromatic purity and classic structure across the finest crus and estates. A 2019 Bruno Giacosa Barolo Falletto Vigna Le Rocche at 98 points from James Suckling is one of the highest-rated Italian wines of the decade from one of the appellation’s most historically important and critically recognised estates. For those who follow Barolo at the highest quality level, and for those who are beginning to explore the Giacosa estate’s extraordinary legacy under daughter Bruna Giacosa’s continuing stewardship, the 2019 white label Le Rocche is the essential and most immediately accessible entry point into what is one of the Langhe’s great winemaking legacies. Gorgeous aromas of roses that fill the glass along with ripe strawberries, raspberries and forest fruits. Very structured and right with finely toned tannins that are tight, sleek and racy. One for the cellar. - James Suckling The white label, the 2019 Barolo Falletto Vigna Le Rocche is a generous and expansive wine that hits the palate from all sides. It offers lingering sensations of sweet fruit with a good amount of intensity and muscle power pushing from behind. That forward momentum is fueled by dark fruit, rusty earth, wet clay and blood orange. It shows elegance, substance and finely tuned tones with considerable tension and tightness. This is another bottle to rest at the back of your cellar. - Wine Advocate |
