Tasting Note :

Domaine Michel Gros produces this Bourgogne Hautes Cotes de Nuits rouge from the Fontaine Saint-Martin parcel, a lieu-dit within the elevated appellation that extends westward above the Cote de Nuits escarpment. The wine represents the estate's entry-level Pinot Noir and provides an accessible introduction to Michel Gros's winemaking philosophy, applied here to regional-level fruit with the same care as his more prestigious cuvees.

The Hautes Cotes de Nuits occupies hillside terrain above the major Cote de Nuits villages at elevations typically above 350 metres, producing Pinot Noir of a lighter, fresher style than the celebrated slope below. Fontaine Saint-Martin is a specific named site within this broader appellation, lending the wine a degree of parcel specificity unusual at the regional classification level. The 2020 vintage was warm and concentrated across Burgundy, producing wines of good natural ripeness even at higher elevations. The magnum format slows development and extends the wine's cellaring window.

Michel Gros regional wines have developed a following among buyers who appreciate the estate's overall quality level and wish to drink at the Nuits-style character without the prices commanded by the premier cru and Grand Cru cuvees. As a magnum, this wine is particularly well suited to informal dinner table use, where the generous format provides enough wine for a group without opening multiple bottles of a more precious cuvee.

Drink now through 2027. Best with roast chicken, mushroom-based pasta, light pork or mild cheese preparations. Serve at 15 degrees Celsius.

Clear ruby. A fresh, clean nose of red cherry, raspberry and light herbs with a mineral thread from the higher-elevation terroir. The palate is light-to-medium bodied, silky and clean with lively acidity and a fresh, moderately persistent finish. An easy-drinking regional Burgundy with honest character.
