Domaine Michel Gros is a Vosne-Romanee estate built from the holdings of the legendary Jean Gros family, whose influence over the Cote de Nuits spans more than a century. Michel Gros, son of Jean, farms parcels across Vosne-Romanee, Nuits-Saint-Georges and, from 2022, a portion of the Echezeaux Grand Cru. The Les Loachausses lieu-dit, historically associated with the Gros family's broader holdings, was reassigned within the family's complex parcel structure to Michel Gros with the 2022 vintage, making this his first solo bottling from the site.

Les Loachausses is a 2.5-hectare climat within Echezeaux Grand Cru, situated in the southern half of the vineyard bordering the celebrated Cruots ou Vignes Blanches, which Henri Jayer once declared the finest terroir within Echezeaux. Michel Gros works 0.38 hectares within the lieu-dit, using 100% new oak for this Grand Cru cuvee, a notable departure from the lighter touch applied to his village and premier cru wines. The 2022 Burgundy vintage was warm and generous, producing wines of ripe, expressive fruit and good underlying structure.

The change in stewardship of this specific parcel between Anne Gros and Michel Gros with the 2022 vintage is a historically significant moment for both estates. Anne Gros had produced a celebrated Echezeaux Les Loachausses for two decades, with scores consistently in the mid-nineties from Decanter and Vinous. Michel Gros's inaugural 2022 bottling inherits both the terroir prestige and the critical attention that the lieu-dit has accumulated under the family name.

Cellar for a minimum of five to six years; the new oak needs time to integrate. Best from 2028 to 2045. Pair with roasted game, grouse or truffled preparations. Decant two hours before service.

Deep ruby with violet hues. A pretty and fresh nose shows red and dark currant, poached plum, Asian spice and floral top notes, framed by new oak toast. The palate is cool and restrained, with middleweight flavours of clear minerality and linear structure. Youthfully austere today with evident density to support the wood in time.
