Tasting Note :

Domaine Claude Dugat is one of Gevrey-Chambertin's most sought-after small estates, farming just over 2.5 hectares of prime Cote de Nuits land with meticulous attention to viticulture and a traditional, low-yield approach to winemaking. La Gibryotte is the property name used for a range of wines from the estate, reflecting the address of the domaine's historic cellar in Gevrey-Chambertin. The Charmes-Chambertin is the domaine's senior Grand Cru, drawn from a 0.31-hectare parcel in this celebrated nine-hectare vineyard.

The Wine Advocate (William Kelley, January 2025) awarded 94-96 points to the 2023 Charmes-Chambertin from this estate, assessed from barrel. Charmes-Chambertin is one of the largest and most accessible of Gevrey's Grands Crus, producing wines of exceptional perfume and silky texture rather than the austere power of Chambertin itself. The 2023 Burgundy vintage was warm and giving across the Cote de Nuits, and Kelley noted that Dugat's range showed 'haunting clarity and sophistication' from this exceptional parcel.

Claude Dugat's wines are among the most allocated and difficult to obtain in Gevrey-Chambertin, with a global collector following that was established largely through the estate's consistent performance over more than three decades. The La Gibryotte range maintains the same philosophy and parcel access as the main Domaine Claude Dugat range, and both labels share the estate's hallmark characteristics: low yields, careful handling and wines built for long-term development. The 2023 barrel assessment suggests wines of considerable interest.

Cellar for a minimum of eight to ten years. Best from 2033 to 2050. Decant three hours before service and pair with roasted grouse, venison or truffle preparations when mature.

Deep ruby with violet hue. The nose shows black cherry, wild raspberry, violet, subtle spice and a fine limestone mineral quality. The palate is layered and finely structured, with concentrated fruit, refined tannins and vibrant acidity, concluding in a long, saline, precise finish of remarkable composure for a barrel sample. Exceptional potential.
