Tasting Note :

This is the magnum presentation of Domaine Hubert Lamy's Chassagne-Montrachet Rouge La Goujonne, the same wine as the standard 750 ml bottling from an exceptional village-level parcel of 1950-planted vines that Lamy has farmed for over seven decades. In magnum format, the wine develops more slowly, with a longer, more gradual evolution that suits the perfumed, whole-bunch style that Olivier Lamy pursues here.

The La Goujonne parcel's combination of fine red clay and limestone soils in the village of Chassagne-Montrachet provides a natural finesse to the fruit that the 80% whole-bunch vinification in 2023 reinforces with a distinctive herbal, spice-driven freshness. Magnums of red Burgundy from small producers are relatively scarce, and the format is ideally suited to dining occasions where the wine's aromatic delicacy should be shared and appreciated across a table rather than poured from a single standard bottle.

Neal Martin at Vinous awarded 90 points to this wine, and the magnum format carries the same assessment and tasting notes as the standard bottle. The added value of the magnum lies in its slower development in the cellar and its impact at the dinner table. For collectors who value the specificity of this leasehold vineyard and the Lamy family's long association with La Goujonne, the magnum represents an important preservation of what will eventually be a discontinued cuvee.

Drink from 2026 to 2033 in magnum. Excellent with roast duck, partridge, wild mushroom preparations or aged sheep's cheese. Serve at 16 degrees Celsius and allow the wine to breathe for thirty minutes after opening.

Bright ruby with fine clarity. Aromas of cranberry, rose petal, crushed strawberry, whole-bunch spice and a delicate white pepper note. The palate is medium-bodied with silky tannins, fresh acidity and a clean, elegantly spiced finish. The magnum format provides a slightly more generous, rounder impression than the standard bottle at the same stage.
