Tasting Note :

The 2009 Latour a Pomerol was produced from the exceptional Bordeaux vintage that saw warm, concentrated conditions deliver wines of opulence and generosity across the Right Bank. Robert Parker at the Wine Advocate awarded 94, Wine Spectator 93. Parker's en primeur assessment noted 'blueberry, with mineral and dried rose petal, leading to a full body with chewy, yet polished tannins that go on for minutes, solid and very pretty, growing on the palate, best in years.' At fifteen years of age, the wine has evolved considerably, moving from the primary fruit exuberance of youth toward the secondary complexity of a mature Pomerol.

Latour a Pomerol's 100% Merlot from deep gravel and clay soils found perfect expression in the 2009's warm, concentrated conditions: the clay's water retention buffered the heat and drought of the growing season, while the warmth accelerated phenolic ripeness to an unusual degree. Jancis Robinson, who gave 17.5 at en primeur, described the wine as 'very luscious and complete with real density and substance, not just sweet and alcoholic, with great but not excessive ripeness and lots of fine tannins.'

The 2009 vintage across Pomerol was generally considered one of the great Right Bank years, producing wines of exceptional concentration and generosity that stand alongside 2010 and 2019 as the finest Pomerol years of the twenty-first century. At Latour a Pomerol, the 2009 benefits from the Moueix family's experienced management of their clay terroir in warm conditions, producing a wine of genuine Pomerol character without the excessive ripeness that affected some less carefully managed properties.

Drink from 2020 to 2030. This wine is at or approaching peak maturity. Decant one to two hours and pair with roasted beef, duck breast or strong aged cheese.

Deep garnet with mature brick tints. The evolved bouquet opens with dark plum, black cherry, truffle, cedar and loamy soil, the 2009 vintage's characteristic generosity evident in the ripe, opulent fruit. The palate is medium to full-bodied, plush and round with soft, well-integrated tannins and a long, concentrated finish. In a lovely mature drinking window.
