Tasting Note :

The 2010 Chateau Leoville-Las Cases is among the most comprehensively acclaimed wines produced in Bordeaux in the twenty-first century, receiving perfect 100-point scores from both Decanter and Wine Enthusiast, 99 from Wine Spectator and James Suckling, 96+ from Robert Parker's Wine Advocate and 96 from Vinous. Decanter described it as 'layered, textured, deep, cigar box, cassis and earth, managing to simultaneously stretch out and burrow down,' noting its 'powerful texture and tannic architecture' and predicting that 'you are going to want to be around when it fully opens.'

The 2010 Leoville-Las Cases is a blend of 82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot and 8% Cabernet Franc, aged in 75% new oak, producing a wine of extraordinary structure and longevity even by the standards of this exceptional estate. Robert Parker described it as 'quintessentially elegant and classic, reminiscent of the style of the 1986 but more concentrated and powerful,' needing seven to eight years minimum of cellaring and capable of lasting thirty or more years. James Suckling awarded 99, finding 'super integrated tannins that are like the finest silk in texture' with 'elegant and pretty fruit character and a reserve and finesse of such great years as 1989 and 1995.'

Leoville-Las Cases regularly draws comparisons with the Medoc's First Growths, and in 2010 it produced a wine that many critics and Bordeaux connoisseurs place alongside Mouton Rothschild, Latour and Petrus as the vintage's defining expressions. Parker once wrote that 'if a single wine estate in Bordeaux today were to be promoted to the rank of Premier Cru Classe, Leoville Las Cases would be the choice of most claret connoisseurs.' The 2010 is the most persuasive argument for that promotion ever produced.

Do not open before 2030; best from 2033 to 2070. Decant for three to four hours and serve at 17 degrees Celsius. Pair with roasted prime rib, venison or truffle preparations. A wine of generational significance.

Deep, near-opaque garnet with a youthful core despite its age. A monumental bouquet of black currants, cedar, cassis, dark mineral, cigar box and graphite unfolds slowly. The palate is full-bodied and chiselled, with wrought-iron tannin structure driving along with extraordinary precision and a finish of seemingly endless persistence. One of the great Bordeaux of the era.
