Tasting Note :

L'Esperance de Trotanoy is the second wine of Chateau Trotanoy, one of Pomerol's historic top estates owned by the Moueix family and farmed with the same meticulous attention to detail that governs the grand vin. The second wine is produced from younger vines or lots that do not meet the standards required for the Trotanoy main label, providing an accessible entry point into the estate's style and the Pomerol appellation at a price well below the first wine.

The grand vin Trotanoy 2010 received extraordinary critical acclaim: Wine Spectator awarded 98 points and named it the 'brick-house Pomerol of the vintage,' while Wine Advocate awarded 97 points, Decanter 98 and James Suckling 98. The second wine L'Esperance de Trotanoy, produced from the estate's younger vine material and less favoured parcels, inevitably shares some of the quality advantage of the 2010 growing season while expressing a more accessible profile. The vintage's hallmark combination of exceptional concentration and natural structure should permeate both wines.

Pomerol's iron-rich clay soils at Trotanoy produce wines of unusual density and complexity even from younger vines, which means that the second wine from this address carries more intrinsic terroir quality than many second wines from other appellations. For buyers seeking Pomerol character from the Moueix stable in the outstanding 2010 vintage at a fraction of the Trotanoy grand vin price, L'Esperance provides a practical and historically grounded alternative.

Drink from now through 2030. Decant one to two hours. Pair with roast beef, duck or Merlot-complementary preparations. The wine should be in a comfortable mature drinking window.

Deep garnet with mature brick tints. The nose shows Pomerol's characteristic combination of dark fruit, truffle, coffee and clay mineral notes. The palate is medium-bodied with mature tannins, the concentration of 2010 Bordeaux expressed in a more accessible register than the grand vin. Genuine Trotanoy character at its second-wine level.
