Tasting Note :

Chateau Trotanoy is one of Pomerol's most historically significant estates, owned by the Moueix family and producing wines of exceptional power and longevity from 7.2 hectares of deep clay soil on the western plateau. Planted primarily to Merlot (92%) with the balance in Cabernet Franc, Trotanoy has been described by Robert Parker as one of his favourite estates in all of Bordeaux, with its muscular, structured style often requiring a decade of cellaring before revealing its full complexity.

Wine Enthusiast and Vinous each awarded 94 points to the 2011 Trotanoy, the Wine Advocate 92+, and James Suckling 93-94. The 2011 Bordeaux vintage was cooler and more structured than the opulent 2009 and 2010, and Trotanoy performed particularly well in the conditions, producing what the Wine Advocate described as 'a bigger wine than most 2011s, similar to the masculinity and robustness of Gazin, with more mineral content.' The wine required three to four years of cellaring and has now developed beautifully.

Trotanoy's deep clay soils produce wines of a distinctly different character from the gravel-dominant Pomerol estates: broader, more mineral, with a particular iron-clay quality that distinguishes the estate's style even when tasted blind against other top Pomерols. The 2011, while not the most powerful vintage from Trotanoy, has developed the secondary complexity that Merlot from these soils achieves over time: truffle, humus and cedar notes alongside persistent dark fruit.

Drink now through 2032. Decant two hours before service. An ideal partner for braised short rib, roasted lamb or strong aged cheese. Well within its drinking window and developing beautifully.

Deep garnet with mature hues. The nose shows Trotanoy's muscular character: black cherry, mineral iron, undergrowth, baking spice and a fine cedar note. The palate is medium to full-bodied with firm, well-integrated tannins, strong backbone and a long mineral-driven finish. More structured than elegant but developing genuine complexity with age.
