Dominus Estate is one of Napa Valley's most iconic wineries, founded by renowned Bordeaux vintner Christian Moueix in 1983. Moueix, whose family owns the legendary Château Pétrus, purchased the historic Napanook Vineyard after farming it for several years. The vineyard had previously been developed by pioneering Napa vintner John Daniel Jr., who helped establish Napa Valley's reputation for world-class Cabernet Sauvignon.

Dominus is celebrated for combining Bordeaux-inspired precision with the unique terroir of Napa Valley. The striking winery, designed by the Swiss architects Herzog & de Meuron, is recognised for its gabion stone walls that naturally regulate temperature while blending seamlessly into the landscape.

Following a long, even growing season, 2018 is widely regarded as one of Napa Valley's greatest modern vintages. The wine was matured for approximately 18 months in French oak barrels, with around 40% new oak, allowing the vineyard character to remain the primary focus.

A benchmark Napa Valley Bordeaux blend, the 2018 Dominus combines remarkable concentration with elegance and restraint. Unlike many richly extracted Napa Cabernets, it emphasises freshness, structure and mineral precision over sheer power.

The nose reveals layers of blackcurrant, blackberry, cassis, graphite, cedar, crushed rock, violets, tobacco leaf and subtle spice. The palate is full-bodied yet remarkably poised, with dense but refined tannins supporting concentrated dark fruit. Notes of liquorice, pencil lead, cocoa, savoury herbs and wet stone unfold through an exceptionally long, persistent finish. Although approachable with extended decanting, this wine is built to evolve gracefully for 30–50 years.
