Tasting Note :

Clos Saint-Martin is a micro-estate of 1.33 hectares on the limestone plateau of Saint-Emilion, bordered by Beauséjour Duffau-Lagarrosse and occupying one of the most precisely positioned sites within the appellation. The estate's exceptional terroir compensates for its tiny scale, consistently producing wines with the depth and complexity expected of limestone plateau Saint-Emilion at the Grand Cru Classé level. Production is tiny and bottles rarely appear outside specialist channels.

The 2019 Saint-Emilion vintage is considered one of the finest of the twenty-first century, delivering wines of exceptional concentration, balance and longevity across all classifications. At Clos Saint-Martin, the combination of the 2019 vintage conditions and the limestone plateau's natural capacity for structure produced a wine of remarkable intensity, described by the Wine Advocate as 'brilliant' with 'cherries, wild berries, violets and subtle spices' on the nose. The Merlot-based blend is picked in four separate harvest passes to optimise ripeness selection.

The 2019 vintage at Clos Saint-Martin attracted strong pre-bottling commentary from multiple critics, with barrel sample scores in the mid-nineties suggesting that the finished wine would represent a significant achievement from this small estate. The wine's combination of power, precision and the inherent mineral quality of the plateau limestone makes it a serious candidate for extended cellaring among buyers focused on top Saint-Emilion.

Best from 2027 to 2045. Decant two to three hours before service and pair with roast duck, truffled preparations or mature hard cheese.

Deep ruby. A rich and complex bouquet delivers fresh cherry, wild berry, violet, tobacco, truffle and subtle spice with real aromatic generosity. The palate is full and deep with a meaty core of fruit, powdery tannins and bright acidity, finishing long and precise. Structured for significant development in the cellar.
