The 2019 Latour a Pomerol has received exceptional critical consensus, with James Suckling awarding 97, Decanter 95, the Wine Advocate 94, Vinous 94, Wine Enthusiast 93 and Wine Spectator 91. Suckling described 'a really tightly wound ball of fine tannins, tight, so formed and intense, blackberries, black truffles, dark mushrooms and dried flowers, chewy yet so integrated and refined.' The Wine Advocate called it 'the high point in the Moueix portfolio this year, wafting from the glass with aromas of cherries, sweet berries, rose petals, cigar wrapper and loamy soil, full-bodied, ample and concentrated, seamless and layered, with lively acids, powdery tannins and a vibrant, beautifully balanced profile.' The 2019 Bordeaux vintage is considered one of the finest of the twenty-first century, combining the ripeness and concentration of a warm year with a paradoxical freshness and natural balance. At Latour a Pomerol, whose 100% Merlot performs especially well in warm but not excessive conditions, the 2019 provided exceptional raw material. Neal Martin at Vinous noted the wine was 'just as impressive from bottle as it was from barrel, if not more so, creamy and expansive, with bright acids, red fruit, blood orange, tar, gravel and spice.' Within the context of the Moueix Pomerol portfolio, the 2019 Latour a Pomerol has attracted particular attention from critics and collectors as the highest-quality release from the entire range in that vintage. For buyers building a cellar of fine Pomerol, the 2019 provides a compelling acquisition alongside the estate's celebrated 2009 and 2010 vintages, with the advantage of greater freshness at this relatively early stage. Best from 2028 to 2048. Decant two to three hours. Pair with roasted Wagyu beef, duck confit or truffle-based preparations. Deep ruby-purple. The nose is complex and precise: cherries, sweet berries, rose petals, cigar wrapper, loamy soil and a fine mineral tension. The palate is full-bodied, ample and concentrated with lively acidity, powdery tannins and a vibrant, seamlessly balanced profile. Exceptional Pomerol at the very highest level; requires patience but promises magnificent development. |
