Tasting Note :

Tardieu-Laurent's Cote-Rotie is sourced from old vine Syrah parcels in one of the northern Rhone's most historically celebrated appellations, the steep granite slopes of the Cote Blonde and Cote Brune above the town of Ampuis. The house's policy of sourcing only from vines of significant age ensures a concentration and complexity that typical younger-vine Cote-Rotie cannot match, and the careful whole-cluster fermentation and large-barrel ageing characteristic of Tardieu-Laurent produces wines of remarkable aromatic definition.

The 2021 Cote-Rotie vintage was characterised by freshness and elegant structure across the appellation, with the granite-soil parcels showing particular precision and mineral intensity. For a house like Tardieu-Laurent whose sourcing emphasises the classic, traditional character of each appellation rather than modern extraction, the 2021's cool-vintage restraint suits the house style well. The magnum format further extends the wine's development trajectory, ideal for buyers who intend to cellar the wine for fifteen or more years.

Cote-Rotie from old-vine sourcing by one of the Rhone's most celebrated micro-negociants represents a compelling proposition within the northern Rhone hierarchy. Tardieu-Laurent's consistent critical acclaim across vintages from this appellation reflects both the quality of their sourcing relationships and the house's precision in cellar management. The 2021's particular freshness makes it especially suited to the magnum format's slower evolution.

Cellar for eight to twelve years in magnum. Best from 2033 to 2055. Pair with roasted game bird, venison or Rhone-classic preparations. Decant three hours before service.

Deep ruby-purple. The nose reveals great purity with soot, black fruit, wild blackberry, violet and a distinctive granitic mineral quality. The palate is full-bodied and powerful with excellent concentration, a crisp and mineral structure reflecting the granite soils, and a very long, mineral finish. Classic Cote-Rotie character from a house known for old-vine precision.
