Tasting Note :

Latour a Pomerol is one of Pomerol's most esteemed estates, an eight-hectare property owned by the Loubat heirs and managed by Etablissements Jean-Pierre Moueix. The 2022 vintage delivered wines of fine quality across Pomerol, and Latour a Pomerol's 100% Merlot from deep gravel and clay soils produced a wine described by William Kelley at the Wine Advocate as 'medium to full-bodied, rich and creamy, ripe and supple, with soft tannins that assert themselves on the finish.' James Suckling awarded 96 (final bottled score), finding 'a ripe and opulent Latour a Pomerol with aromas of currants and raspberry puree, firm and silky palate from fine tannins that frame the luscious fruit nicely.'

Neal Martin at Vinous assessed 93 in February 2025 from the bottled wine, describing 'a relatively low-key bouquet' that 'gains aromatic weight with aeration,' a 'medium-bodied, fresh, lightly spiced and gently tannic palate' and a sapid finish 'that tempts you back for more,' characterising it as 'a lovely, quite understated Pomerol for the vintage.' The Wine Advocate en primeur range of 91-94 from Kelley in April 2023 reflected the wine's pre-bottling assessment.

Latour a Pomerol's consistent positioning among Pomerol's most respected properties reflects both the exceptional quality of its gravel and clay terroir and the Moueix family's decades of vineyard management. The 2022 delivers the estate's characteristic combination of Merlot richness and mineral precision, accessible now but structured for a decade of cellaring. James Suckling's 96 confirms the wine's position at the top end of what the 2022 Pomerol vintage could deliver.

Best from 2027 to 2042. Decant one to two hours. Pair with roasted beef or duck, truffle preparations or aged hard cheese.

Deep ruby with purple highlights. The nose opens with sweet cherries, red berries, licorice and sweet spices, gaining complexity with aeration. The palate is medium to full-bodied, rich and creamy with elegant, supple tannins and a ripe, lively and balanced profile. Both opulent and precise; a fine expression of Pomerol from a great estate in a good year.
