Tasting Note :

Le Tertre Roteboeuf is the singular creation of Francois Mitjavile, a 5.7-hectare estate on a south-facing amphitheatre slope in Saint-Emilion farmed with meticulous biodynamic rigour and vinified with 100% new French oak. Mitjavile's hedonistic, yield-minimising philosophy has produced wines at Le Tertre Roteboeuf of consistent individuality and exceptional critical acclaim since the mid-1980s, with the estate now considered one of the Right Bank's reference addresses. The Wine Advocate (William Kelley) awarded 95-97 en primeur, Vinous (Neal Martin) 96.

William Kelley described the 2022 as 'both the suavest and the most exotic cuvee in the Mitjaville portfolio, a full-bodied, supple and fleshy wine evocative of blackberries, espresso roast, rose petals, spices and smoked meats' comparable to the 2009 vintage in its sweet, ethereal, harmonious profile. Neal Martin at Vinous followed at 96, describing a wine of 'intense bouquet with layers of black cherries, cassis, violet and wild mint' with a 'medium-bodied, lightly spiced' palate and a 'tensile finish of blood orange and dark chocolate.'

The 2022 vintage across Saint-Emilion delivered extraordinary raw material: warm and dry conditions with concentrated fruit of exceptional ripeness. For Le Tertre Roteboeuf, where yields are already minimised by philosophy, the vintage amplified the estate's natural tendencies toward richness and aromatic complexity. Kelley's reference to the 2009 as a comparable vintage confirms that the 2022 stands at the top end of Mitjavile's most celebrated releases.

Cellar for five to eight years. Best from 2030 to 2052. Decant three hours before service. Pair with roasted game, truffle preparations or aged hard cheese. A defining release from this unique Saint-Emilion producer.

Deep ruby-purple. The nose is immediately captivating: blackberries, espresso roast, rose petal, wild mint and exotic spice, with the 100% new oak providing a supporting aromatic framework. The palate is full-bodied, fleshy and seamless, concentrated yet harmonious, finishing long with blood orange and chocolate. One of the finest recent releases from Le Tertre Roteboeuf.
