Domaine Xavier Monnot is a respected family estate based in Meursault, Burgundy. Formerly known as Domaine René Monnier, the estate has been led by Xavier Monnot since 2005. Under his direction, the domaine has become known for producing elegant, terroir-driven wines through sustainable viticulture, low yields and restrained oak ageing. The estate owns the Clos de la Fussière Monopole, one of the most important vineyard holdings in Maranges. Situated at the southern end of the Côte de Beaune, the Premier Cru vineyard benefits from limestone-rich soils and favourable south-east exposure, producing Pinot Noir with both richness and freshness. Ageing: Matured in French oak barrels for around 12 months, with a moderate proportion of new oak. Style: Medium-bodied and refined, offering vibrant red fruit, floral aromatics and silky tannins. The limestone soils provide freshness and mineral precision, while the vintage combines elegance with excellent concentration. The 2023 vintage is expected to begin showing well from 2027 and should continue to develop through 2035, gaining additional savoury complexity while retaining its vibrant fruit and freshness. " A glowing brilliant ruby. Excellent energy to this Clos de la Fussière with very lively cherry and raspberry fruit, a few tannins behind. Fine long finish, very promising. Useful acidity as well. Drink from 2027–2030." -- Inside Burgundy, Jasper Morris |
