The 2023 Domaine Xavier Monnot Pommard Les Vignots is a village-level Burgundy made from 100% Pinot Noir sourced from the Les Vignots lieu-dit, situated on the upper slope above the village of Pommard. The south-facing site, at over 300 metres in elevation, produces wines that combine Pommard's hallmark structure with greater aromatic lift and freshness. The vineyard is planted predominantly with 50-year-old vines, contributing concentration and complexity. Xavier Monnot took over his family's estate in Meursault and, beginning with the 2005 vintage, renamed it Domaine Xavier Monnot (formerly Domaine René Monnier). Today the domaine spans approximately 17 hectares (42 acres) from Beaune to Maranges, producing both white and red Burgundy. Xavier is recognised for crafting wines that emphasise purity of fruit, balance and transparency of terroir while practising sustainable vineyard management. The 2023 offers aromas of black cherry, raspberry, blackberry and violet, layered with subtle notes of white pepper, iron-rich earth and gentle spice. On the palate it is medium to full-bodied, combining ripe fruit with lively acidity and the firm, chalky tannins typical of Pommard. The elevated vineyard site brings freshness and finesse, while careful oak ageing adds discreet hints of toast and spice without overwhelming the fruit. |
