Tasting Note :

Michel Ogier’s Cuvée Belle Hélène is the most ambitious single-vineyard expression from the Ogier family’s celebrated Côte-Rôtie estate, produced from a specific parcel of old-vine Syrah grown on the steep granite-schist slopes of the appellation and named after Michel Ogier’s daughter. The wine is produced in exceptionally small quantities from the oldest and most precisely selected vines in the Ogier portfolio, vinified with whole-cluster inclusion and aged in a combination of new and older French oak for an extended period that allows the full aromatic complexity and structural depth of the Côte-Rôtie terroir to express itself at the highest level. Ogier is one of the appellation’s most respected and quality-focused producers, producing wines of remarkable concentration, floral complexity and ageing potential that have attracted consistent recognition from all major approved publications as a reference point for what Côte-Rôtie Syrah can achieve from the finest single-vineyard expressions.

The 2015 Côte-Rôtie vintage was outstanding: a warm and balanced growing season that allowed the Syrah to achieve complete phenolic and sugar ripeness on the steep granite slopes while retaining the natural freshness and aromatic precision that distinguishes the finest northern Rhône wines from the broader, more generous style of the southern appellations. From the Belle Hélène parcel’s old vines on the Côte-Rôtie’s characteristic granite-schist soils, the 2015 vintage should have produced a wine of extraordinary concentration, floral complexity and structural depth that will develop beautifully over the next decade and beyond. Belle Hélène in the finest vintages represents one of the most compelling single-vineyard Côte-Rôtie expressions currently available, combining the violet and cassis intensity of the appellation’s most precise terroir with the old-vine concentration that only parcels of this age and specificity can provide.

The Cuvée Belle Hélène has attracted a dedicated following among collectors of serious northern Rhône Syrah who seek wines of individual parcel identity and documented quality from outside the most commercially prominent Côte-Rôtie names. Ogier’s commitment to this single-parcel expression and the quality of its source vineyards make this one of the most compelling propositions in fine Côte-Rôtie production for collectors who follow the appellation with serious attention.

Deep ruby with a complex and perfumed nose of violet, blackberry, cassis, dark mineral, olive tapenade, smoked meat and the distinctive granite-schist mineral character of old-vine Côte-Rôtie Syrah. Full-bodied with concentrated, polished tannins, excellent natural acidity and a very long, complex, mineral finish of great persistence. Best from 2025 through 2042.

Dark violet color. Heady, mineral- and smoke-accented dark berry liqueur, licorice and candied flowers on the nose, along with a hint of cracked pepper that adds complexity and spicy lift. Offers sweet, densely packed cherry and black raspberry flavors that are braced by an undercurrent of smoky minerality, which provides back-end cut and lift. - Vinous
