Tasting Note :

Château de Beaucastel’s Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc is one of France’s most distinctive and ambitious dry white wines, produced from a blend dominated by Roussanne with contributions from Grenache Blanc, Bourboulenc, Picardan and Clairette grown at the domaine’s historically exceptional terroir on the northern plateau of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation. The Perrin family’s commitment to organic and biodynamic viticulture since the 1960s, their adherence to all thirteen permitted Châteauneuf grape varieties and their conviction that the Southern Rhône’s ancient galets roulés (rounded stones) and clay-limestone subsoil, combined with the Mistral wind, produce wines of extraordinary character and longevity have made Beaucastel’s Blanc one of the benchmarks of French white wine production. The 2023 vintage received 94 points from both James Suckling and Decanter, and 93 points from both Wine Advocate and Vinous, a convergence of critical opinion that confirms this as a very fine expression of the estate’s white wine potential in a vintage of excellent character.

The 2023 Southern Rhône vintage produced wines of excellent freshness and aromatic precision at Beaucastel, benefiting from the slightly late and controlled harvest conditions that the domaine’s specific terroir and experienced team achieved. The wine is described across approved publications as richly textured and harmonious, with a classic Beaucastel Blanc aromatic profile of honeyed stone fruit, herbal tea, honeysuckle and mineral depth from the ancient galets roulés that dominate the estate’s northern plateau. The inclusion of approximately 20% of Grenache Blanc, Bourboulenc, Picardan and Clairette alongside the dominant Roussanne provides the balance and freshness that the warmer 2023 growing season demanded.

Beaucastel Blanc has become one of the most sought-after dry white wines in France, commanding premiums that reflect both its exceptional ageing potential and the appellation’s growing recognition among fine white wine collectors. The 2023, with its multi-publication score confirmation and the estate’s consistently high quality standard, is an outstanding acquisition for those who follow Beaucastel’s work and for collectors who seek world-class dry Southern Rhône blanc of documented provenance and critical recognition.

Pale gold with a complex and harmonious nose of baked lemon, verbena, beeswax, honeysuckle, wild herbs, dried spices and the distinctive mineral depth of the Beaucastel galets roulés terroir. Full-bodied with a round, generous texture, excellent natural freshness and a long, saline, mineral finish of great elegance and persistence. Best from 2026 through 2042.

A textured, dense, silky and harmonious white blend. The nose exhibits aromas of baked lemons, verbena, beeswax, wild herbs and some dried spices. Medium-bodied with moderate acidity. The cooked lemons and herbs bring a lively, energetic mid-palate. It’s oily and highly textural. — James Suckling

The 2023 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc delivers a classic nose of honeysuckle, cedar, lemon flesh, herbal tea and a touch of jasmine. Full-bodied, round and elegant. A long, elegant close confirms a white Châteauneuf-du-Pape of outstanding quality. — Vinous
