Tasting Note :

Charles Heidsieck is one of Champagne’s most respected grandes maisons, founded in Reims in 1851 by Charles-Camille Heidsieck whose personal promotion of Champagne in the United States during the 19th century earned him the nickname “Champagne Charlie.” The house is widely regarded as producing the finest non-vintage Brut in the grandes maisons category, owing principally to the extraordinary proportion of reserve wines in the blend: approximately 50% of the Brut Réserve is drawn from a library of reserve wines averaging a decade in age, stored in stainless steel tanks at the house. This combination of depth, maturity and complexity from aged reserves, assembled with a base vintage of recent harvest, produces a non-vintage Champagne of unusual depth and authority for its price point.

The Brut Réserve is blended from approximately 40% Pinot Noir, 40% Chardonnay and 20% Pinot Meunier, sourced from around 60 crus across the Montagne de Reims, Côte des Blancs and Vallée de la Marne. The reserve library incorporates wines from many individual vintages spanning a decade or more, providing the layered complexity and textural richness that distinguishes this wine from the younger-blend offerings of many other grandes maisons at similar price points. The gift box presentation of the standard Brut Réserve maintains the identical wine in a format suitable for gifting and retail display without alteration to the blend, disgorgement or dosage.

James Suckling awarded the current release 93 points, Wine Spectator 93, Wine Advocate 92 and Wine Enthusiast 92, a consistency of high scoring across four publications that places the Brut Réserve among the finest non-vintage Champagnes at any price. Wine Spectator described “richly toasted brioche and roasted hazelnut” with a “long, creamy and harmonious” profile. The gift box format presents this frequently cited benchmark Champagne in a format that requires no additional comment: the quality of the wine is wholly established, and the packaging provides a presentation that matches that quality.

Deep gold with fine, persistent bubbles and a complex nose of toasted brioche, roasted hazelnut, ripe orchard fruit, crème brûlée, lemon curd and the distinctive aged-reserves maturity that separates Charles Heidsieck from younger-blend competitors. Full-bodied, creamy and harmonious on the palate with excellent natural acidity and a long, complex finish. Drink now through 2028.
