Tasting Note :

Jerome Prevost is one of Champagne's most singular and celebrated producers, farming a single 2.2-hectare parcel of old-vine Pinot Meunier in Gueux on Thanetian sandy soils in the Montagne de Reims. His two principal cuvees, Les Beguines (blanc) and Fac Simile (rose), are produced in tiny quantities from this single vineyard and have attracted a devoted following among Champagne collectors globally. The 'LC23' lot code indicates a Fac Simile release based predominantly on the 2023 harvest.

The Fac Simile is Prevost's rose cuvee, produced by blending approximately 87% of the white Les Beguines base wine with 13% of a still red wine produced from a small, highly concentrated intra-plot selection of small-berry Pinot Meunier affected by court-noue. The red wine component is vinified without sulphur and aged ten months in a single 228-litre barrel, contributing a remarkable depth of red fruit character despite its modest proportion. The wine is then disgorged at 2 to 3 grams per litre and requires at least two to three years post-disgorgement to reveal its full complexity.

The Wine Advocate has consistently awarded Prevost's Fac Simile releases scores in the mid-to-high nineties: Kristaps Karklins awarded 98 to the FS22 release, 97 to the 2019-based release, and 96 to the earlier LC20. The LC23 has not yet received its official Wine Advocate score at the time of compilation, but the estate's track record and the 2023 harvest's quality strongly suggest continuation at the same exceptional level. Production is so small that virtually all bottles are allocated before public release.

Cellar for a minimum of two to three years post-disgorgement. Best from 2028 to 2040. Serve at 11 degrees in a broad glass. Pair with raw fish, delicate charcuterie or red meat in elegant preparations. The Fac Simile's combination of tension and depth makes it genuinely one of Champagne's most remarkable food wines.

Pale salmon-pink with fine, energetic bubbles. The nose is extraordinary: rose petal, crushed rocks, white pepper, dried cherry and a saline mineral quality from the Gueux Thanetian sand, with Meunier's characteristic florality lifting everything. The palate is full, creamy and profound, with a long finish of remarkable persistence and depth. Among the most exceptional Champagne roses produced.
