Tasting Notes

Radikon is one of Italy's most iconic natural wine producers and a pioneer of the modern orange wine movement. Located in the village of Oslavia in Friuli-Venezia Giulia, on the border with Slovenia, the estate was transformed by the late Stanko Radikon, whose revolutionary approach to extended skin maceration, organic farming and minimal-intervention winemaking has influenced producers around the world.

Today, the winery is led by Saša Radikon, who continues the family's philosophy of cultivating vineyards organically, fermenting with indigenous yeasts, avoiding fining and filtration, and using little or no added sulphur. The vineyards are planted on the region's distinctive Ponca soils—a mix of marl and sandstone—which impart remarkable minerality and longevity. The wine Jakot takes its name from "Tokaj" spelled backwards, following the European ruling that prohibited the use of the Tokaj name for Friulano wines. It has since become one of Radikon's flagship bottlings and a benchmark for skin-contact Friulano.

The 2012 Jakot is produced from 100% Friulano grown in organically farmed vineyards. The grapes undergo approximately three months of skin maceration in large oak vats before ageing for around three years in large Slavonian oak casks, followed by extended bottle ageing prior to release.

Deep amber in colour, the wine is intensely aromatic and profoundly textured. It offers layers of dried apricot, candied orange peel, baked apple, quince, chamomile, honey, almonds and Mediterranean herbs, underpinned by smoky tea, resin and pronounced mineral notes. The palate is powerful yet remarkably fresh, with firm but refined tannins, vibrant acidity and an exceptionally long, savoury finish. The 2012 vintage combines richness with precision and is capable of evolving gracefully for decades.

" Made entirely with Friulano, this stunning wine delivers dried apricot, candied nectarine zest, baked apple, almond and dried herb sensations. A mineral vein weaves through the elegantly structured palate, adding both depth and complexity. " -- Wine Enthusiast
