Tasting Note :

Domaine Thierry et Pascale Matrot is one of Meursault's benchmark family estates, with a history dating back to the early 20th century. Based in the village of Meursault, the domaine has built a reputation for producing elegant, terroir-driven Burgundy that emphasises purity, balance and longevity rather than excessive oak influence. Since the 2016 vintage, the estate has been led by sisters Adèle and Elsa Matrot, who succeeded their father, Thierry Matrot, while continuing the family's philosophy of sustainable viticulture. The vineyards have been farmed organically since around 2000, and the wines are made with minimal intervention, indigenous yeasts where possible and restrained oak usage.

The Meursault-Blagny Premier Cru is sourced from vineyards on the elevated limestone slopes of Blagny, above the village of Meursault. The cooler exposition and shallow, stony soils consistently produce Chardonnay with greater tension, freshness and minerality than many richer Meursault Premier Crus. Fermentation and maturation take place in French oak barrels, with no new oak, allowing the vineyard character to take centre stage. The warm yet balanced 2020 vintage produced concentrated fruit while preserving excellent acidity thanks to an unusually early harvest.

Produced from 100% Chardonnay, the 2020 Meursault-Blagny is a refined, mineral-driven expression of Meursault.

Pale lemon-gold in colour, it offers aromas of green apple, lemon zest, white peach, pear and citrus blossom, complemented by notes of crushed limestone, hazelnut, flint, subtle buttered pastry and gentle smoky reduction. The palate is medium-bodied with impressive precision, combining vibrant acidity with a creamy texture derived from lees ageing. Compared with Meursault's richer crus such as Charmes, Blagny is more linear and chiselled, displaying pronounced chalky minerality and a persistent saline finish. The absence of new oak allows the vineyard's purity and freshness to shine through.

" Still in barrel, unracked. Pale lemon and lime, some citrus in with the apple here. Almost a lime note as well, a more chiselled finish, white fruit, is going to take a little time... one of the great qualities chez Matrot. " -- Inside Burgundy, Jasper Morris ( MW )
