Tasting Note :

Terre Alte is Livio Felluga's flagship white wine and one of Italy's most venerated white blends, created in 1981 as a statement of Friuli's capacity to produce white wines of international stature. Sourced from old vines planted between the 1950s and 1970s in the estate's prime Rosazzo DOCG vineyards on Ponca soils, the blend of Friulano, Pinot Bianco and Sauvignon Blanc has set the benchmark for Friulian white wine quality for four decades. The Rosazzo DOCG designation, specific to this sub-zone of the Colli Orientali, reflects the area's particular microclimate and ancient soil composition.

The Wine Advocate awarded 94 points to the 2022, noting the wine's classic blend profile from old vines that 'despite a warm vintage, balanced rainfall and hillside vineyard vigour preserved freshness and composure,' with 'layered notes of citrus, mandarin and subtle tropical fruit, alongside Mediterranean herbs and mineral, saline tones from the Ponca soils.' Vinous awarded 94 and Wine Enthusiast 94, the latter describing 'ripe cut peach mingles with fresh apple and a citrus medley, the palate unfolding luxuriously into tropical fruit with tangy citrus cream, elegant and poised through the finish.'

Few Italian white wines have achieved the international recognition and critical consistency of Terre Alte across four decades. Its blend of Friulano's body and almond complexity, Pinot Bianco's aromatic refinement and Sauvignon's aromatic lift creates a wine that is simultaneously Friulian in origin and cosmopolitan in appeal. The wine ages beautifully for ten to fifteen years in top vintages, evolving toward honeyed, mineral complexity that few Italian whites can match.

Drink from 2024 to 2037. Pair with seared scallops, grilled sea bass, delicate pasta with butter and truffle or aged Parmigiano Reggiano. Serve at 12 to 13 degrees Celsius in a broad white wine glass.

Bright straw gold with green shimmer. Aromas of nectarine, mandarin citrus, white flowers, Mediterranean herbs and a distinctive Ponca stone mineral note, with a subtle pastry cream note from the partial oak ageing. The palate is medium-full bodied, layered and elegant, with a saline finish that carries remarkable length. Precise and poised.
