Tommaso Bussola is regarded as one of the finest producers in the Valpolicella Classico region of Veneto. After joining his uncle Giuseppe's winery in the late 1970s, Bussola transformed the estate through lower vineyard yields, meticulous grape selection and extended ageing regimes while remaining faithful to traditional Valpolicella methods. The estate is centred in Negrar, where hillside vineyards on limestone and volcanic soils produce fruit of exceptional concentration and freshness. Bussola's wines are celebrated for combining the richness associated with Amarone with remarkable elegance and balance. Today, the winery is recognised internationally as one of the benchmark estates of Valpolicella. Unlike a traditional Valpolicella Classico, the TB is made exclusively from 100% Corvina. Approximately half of the grapes are harvested early and undergo three months of appassimento (air-drying), while the remaining fruit is picked later and vinified fresh. The wine is then aged for around 33 months in French oak, followed by six months in bottle before release, resulting in a wine of exceptional depth without the full weight of Amarone. " The wine tastes of flowers, woodland notes, balsamic herbs and cocoa. The palate is powerful yet refined, with well-integrated tannins, impressive concentration, fresh acidity and a long mineral finish. " -- James Suckling |
