Villa Matilde Avallone is one of Campania's most historic and influential wineries. Founded in the 1960s by Francesco Paolo Avallone, the estate was inspired by ancient Roman texts describing the legendary Falernian wine, regarded as one of antiquity's finest. Through extensive research and vineyard restoration on the volcanic hills of northern Campania, the Avallone family helped revive the historic Falerno del Massico appellation and became a leading advocate for indigenous varieties such as Aglianico, Piedirosso, Falanghina and Fiano. Today, Villa Matilde is recognised as one of southern Italy's benchmark producers, combining sustainable viticulture with modern winemaking while respecting the region's ancient heritage. The 2018 Villa Matilde Aglianico Campania IGP is produced from 100% Aglianico grown on volcanic soils in Campania. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel, followed by maturation in large oak casks and bottle ageing to preserve the grape's fruit purity while softening its naturally firm tannins.
