Founded in 1893, Cantina Terlano (Kellerei Terlan) is one of Italy's most respected cooperative wineries and a benchmark producer in Alto Adige. Located between Bolzano and Merano in the village of Terlano, the cooperative comprises more than 140 growers cultivating approximately 190 hectares of vineyards on steep slopes between 250 and 900 metres above sea level. The region's distinctive porphyry volcanic soils, cool Alpine climate and significant day-night temperature variation produce wines renowned for their aromatic intensity, freshness and longevity. While the winery enjoys an international reputation for age-worthy white wines, it is equally respected for indigenous red varieties such as Lagrein, producing wines that combine concentration with remarkable elegance. The 2020 Cantina Terlano Lagrein is made from 100% Lagrein, Alto Adige's flagship native red grape. The wine is fermented on the skins before maturing in large oak casks and partly in barriques to soften the variety's naturally firm tannins while preserving its vibrant fruit. Dark garnet red hue. This wine has an intensive aroma comprised of dried cranberries and morello cherry highlighted with a floral note of lilac and hints of laurel. Notes of a restrained chocolate aroma are also present. Very juicy and harmonious, with a delicate texture and silky tannins, the Lagrein develops a rare opulence and is rich and velvety on the palate. |
