Tua Rita’s Per Sempre, the estate’s varietal Syrah expression from the Suvereto zone of the Maremma Toscana coast, is produced from estate vineyards farmed with the same biodynamic-leaning philosophy and meticulous attention that governs the production of the more celebrated Redigaffi. The wine is vinified in clay amphorae and large neutral vessels rather than barriques, producing a wine of great purity and aromatic freshness that reflects the coastal Tuscan terroir’s distinctive combination of warm temperatures, maritime influence and the iron-mineral character of the Suvereto clay-dominant soils. The Syrah variety has found an unexpected home in the Maremma, where the maritime wind cools the vine canopy in the afternoon and preserves the variety’s characteristic aromatic freshness without sacrificing the concentration that the warm coastal climate delivers. The 2020 Tuscany vintage was warm and produced wines of excellent aromatic intensity and deep colour from the finest estate vineyards.

Per Sempre’s character is defined by Syrah’s inherently fresh, peppery and aromatic profile expressed through the specific mineral and saline qualities of the Suvereto clay terroir, amplified by the production’s avoidance of oak influence. The resulting wine occupies a distinctive stylistic position between the structured power of northern Rhône Syrah and the fresh, coastal elegance of the finest coastal Italian interpretations of the variety, sharing neither the Hermitage tradition’s smoke and leather nor the Mediterranean warmth of southern French Syrah, but achieving its own specific Maremma identity of great precision and individual character. Per Sempre is one of Italy’s most interesting and least conventional fine wine propositions: a coastal Tuscany Syrah produced by Italy’s most celebrated Merlot estate, vinified without oak and with the most natural possible approach, in a vintage of good quality, at a price that reflects the wine’s smaller commercial profile relative to the Redigaffi despite sharing the same terroir and the same philosophy.
