Founded in 1893, Cantina Terlano (Kellerei Terlan) is one of Alto Adige's most celebrated wine cooperatives and a benchmark producer of age-worthy white wines. Located between Bolzano and Merano, the estate farms vineyards on mineral-rich porphyry soils at elevations ranging from 250 to over 900 metres. These volcanic soils, combined with the Alpine climate of warm days and cool nights, produce whites renowned for their concentration, freshness and remarkable longevity. The Vorberg vineyard, situated on steep south-facing slopes between 450 and 650 metres, is widely regarded as one of Italy's greatest sites for Pinot Bianco and has become the flagship expression of the variety in Alto Adige. Ageing: Slow fermentation followed by approximately 12 months on the lees, primarily in large oak casks, with regular bâtonnage. Style: A full-bodied yet refined dry white combining richness and creamy texture with vibrant Alpine acidity, pronounced minerality and exceptional ageing potential. "Vorberg is one of the world's great Pinot Bianco (Pinot Blancs) and opens with a fragrant aroma of ripe pear, green apple, and hints of almond. On the palate, it is vibrant with an interplay of citrus and stone fruit, carried by a refreshing acidity. The wine culminates in a textured finish that spans across cuisines. Drink now–2040." -- Wine Enthusiast, Jeff Porter |
