This 2025 Friulano from Livio Felluga represents one of the most recent vintage releases in this batch, from a growing season so recent that critical assessment from approved publications is unlikely to have appeared in widely accessible retail channels at the time of compilation. Friulano (known historically as Tocai Friulano until the 2007 EU ruling in favour of Hungary's Tokaj appellation) is the indigenous signature white grape of Friuli-Venezia Giulia, producing wines of characteristic smooth texture, aromatic complexity and a distinctive bitter almond finish. Livio Felluga's Friulano draws from the estate's Colli Orientali holdings on ancient Ponca soils, the same marly substrate that underpins all of the estate's finest whites. As the foundational varietal expression in the range, the Friulano is vinified in stainless steel to preserve the grape's natural aromatics and freshness. The 2025 vintage in Friuli would represent a very recent release from this harvest and is unlikely to have accumulated the critical commentary associated with older vintages. Livio Felluga's Friulano has long been considered a benchmark expression of the variety in Friuli, and the estate's commitment to quality at all tiers of the range ensures consistency across vintages. For buyers seeking an authentic, appellation-specific Friulian white from the most recognised name in the region, the Friulano provides a characterful and honest introduction to the estate's philosophy. Drink now through 2028. An excellent aperitif or companion for affettati misti, seafood, fried fish or fresh cheeses. Serve at 10 to 11 degrees Celsius. Straw yellow with pale green tints. Clean and fresh on the nose with white peach, almond blossom, lemon zest and a characteristic mineral note from the Ponca soil. The palate is smooth and medium-bodied with fresh acidity and the signature bitter almond note on the finish that defines Friulano. Precise and honest. |
