Tasting Note :

Champagne Lancelot-Pienne is a historic grower Champagne house based in Cramant, in the Côte des Blancs, one of Champagne’s most prestigious Grand Cru villages. The family’s winemaking history dates back more than 120 years, beginning with Jean-Baptiste Lancelot, a vineyard worker at the famous Champagne house G.H. Mumm in Cramant who later established his own vineyards. Today, the estate is led by Gilles Lancelot, an oenologist who took over the family domaine in 2005 and continues a tradition of crafting terroir-driven grower Champagnes.

The estate owns and farms vineyards across several Champagne terroirs, including the Côte des Blancs, Vallée de la Marne and the southern slopes of Épernay. While the family has strong roots in Chardonnay-dominated Cramant, Lancelot-Pienne’s philosophy is based on blending different grape varieties and vineyard sites to create balanced, gastronomic Champagnes. The Accord Majeur cuvée represents this approach, combining the personality of Meunier, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay into a harmonious non-vintage assemblage.

Accord Majeur is a non-vintage Brut Champagne designed as a versatile, food-friendly cuvée. The current expression is based primarily on Pinot Meunier, supported by Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, although the exact blend varies slightly depending on the release. One reviewed bottling consisted of 70% Pinot Meunier, 15% Pinot Noir and 15% Chardonnay, while another release of Accord Majeur featured a Meunier-dominant blend of 85% Meunier and 15% Pinot Noir, reflecting the house’s use of different reserve wine compositions over time.

The wine is produced from vineyards in the Vallée de la Marne and southern Épernay slopes, with vines averaging approximately 45–50 years old. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, followed by malolactic fermentation. The wine is then aged for an extended period in Champagne’s chalk cellars, typically around five years on lees, before disgorgement. Dosage is kept relatively low at approximately 4 g/L, giving the Champagne a dry, balanced profile.

The style is centred around richness, texture and harmony rather than sharpness. Pinot Meunier provides generous fruit and roundness, Pinot Noir contributes structure and depth, while Chardonnay brings freshness and elegance. The wine displays aromas of dried apricot, yellow fruit, honey, beeswax, toasted nuts, brioche and subtle spice. On the palate, it is creamy and expressive, with a fine mousse, balanced acidity and a chalky mineral finish.

" The NV Brut Accord Majeur was praised for its expressive aromas of waxy citrus, pear, nectarine, freshly baked bread and warm biscuits. The palate was described as medium to full-bodied, generous and textured, with a lively acidity balancing the rich fruit profile. A chalky finish adds freshness and length. " -- Wine Advocate

" Chalky texture, peach yoghurt, almond paste, mandarin peel and smoky notes, supported by firm acidity. The review noted its structured character and suggested it performs particularly well when paired with food. " -- Wine Spectator
