Founded in 1988 by Anne-Françoise Gros, Domaine A.F. Gros is a respected Burgundy estate based in Pommard, in the Côte de Beaune. The domaine belongs to the renowned Gros family, one of Burgundy’s historic wine families with roots stretching back several generations. Anne-Françoise Gros represents the fifth generation of the family and established her own estate after inheriting vineyards from her parents, creating a domaine recognised for its elegant, terroir-driven Pinot Noir. Today, the estate farms vineyards across prestigious Burgundy appellations including Pommard, Vosne-Romanée, Chambolle-Musigny and regional Bourgogne cuvées. The Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Nuits appellation lies on the elevated slopes west of the famous Côte de Nuits, above villages such as Nuits-Saint-Georges and Vosne-Romanée. Traditionally considered a source of lighter regional Burgundy, the higher altitude vineyards benefit from cooler temperatures, producing wines with freshness, aromatic purity and refined structure. Domaine A.F. Gros' expression reflects the estate's focus on careful vineyard management and precise winemaking, offering a Burgundy style that combines accessibility with genuine regional character. The 2018 Domaine A.F. Gros Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Nuits Rouge is made from 100% Pinot Noir. The 2018 vintage was one of Burgundy's warmest and most generous recent years, producing wines with ripe fruit concentration while retaining the natural acidity that defines quality Pinot Noir. The grapes are carefully selected and traditionally vinified to preserve freshness, with gentle extraction and maturation in French oak to add complexity without overwhelming the delicate varietal character. " The wine shows ripe but fresh aromas of red and dark Pinot fruit with subtle pepper and sauvage notes. The palate offers good richness for a Hautes-Côtes wine, with a firm yet refined finish and attractive structure. " -- Burghound, Allen Meadows " The review highlights a mineral character with ripe dark fruit expression from the warm vintage. Medium-bodied with a creamy texture, the wine maintains adequate acidity and demonstrates the potential of the Hautes-Côtes de Nuits terroir " -- The Fine Wine Review |
