Fratelli Giacosa is a family-owned winery based in Neive, in the heart of Piedmont's Langhe hills. Established in 1895, the estate has been passed down through four generations of the Giacosa family and is today managed by the brothers Giulio, Bruno and Mauro Giacosa. While the winery is best known for its Barolo and Barbaresco, it also produces classic Piedmontese whites, including Gavi, Roero Arneis and Moscato d'Asti. The philosophy centres on traditional viticulture, careful vineyard selection and restrained winemaking, allowing each appellation and grape variety to express its regional identity. The 2020 Fratelli Giacosa Gavi is made from 100% Cortese, the signature white grape of the Gavi DOCG. Fermented in stainless steel to preserve freshness and varietal purity, it is crafted in a crisp, elegant style. Pale straw yellow with delicate green reflections. The nose is fresh and expressive, offering aromas of green apple, pear, lemon zest and white peach, complemented by white blossom, acacia flowers and a subtle almond nuance. On the palate, the wine is dry, light to medium-bodied and well-balanced, with vibrant acidity supporting flavours of crisp orchard fruits and citrus. A gentle mineral character and hint of bitter almond add complexity, leading to a clean, refreshing and harmonious finish. The wine is best enjoyed young to preserve its lively fruit and freshness, although it can develop more nuanced fruit notes with short-term bottle ageing. It pairs beautifully with shellfish, grilled fish, seafood pasta, salads and light antipasti.
