Tasting Notes

Torre dei Beati is a highly regarded family-owned winery in Loreto Aprutino, one of Abruzzo's finest wine-growing areas. Founded in 1999 by Fausto Albanesi and Adriana Galasso, the estate has established a reputation for producing elegant, terroir-driven wines from organically farmed vineyards. The vineyards lie on clay-limestone hills overlooking the Adriatic Sea, where cooling sea breezes and significant day-night temperature variation preserve freshness and aromatic complexity. Minimal intervention in both the vineyard and cellar allows the character of Abruzzo's native varieties to shine. Vigna Cocciapazza is the estate's flagship Montepulciano, produced only from its oldest and best-performing vineyard parcels, representing the pinnacle of Torre dei Beati's production.

The 2020 Vigna Cocciapazza is made from 100% Montepulciano (Cordisco biotype) sourced from a single vineyard. After fermentation in stainless steel, the wine is matured for approximately 18–22 months in French oak barriques, followed by extended bottle ageing before release. The result is a full-bodied yet refined Montepulciano, combining concentrated dark fruit with vibrant acidity, polished tannins and remarkable balance. While approachable with decanting, it possesses the structure to develop gracefully over 10–15 years.

" Eric Guido described the 2020 as a beautifully layered expression of Montepulciano, noting aromas of ripe black cherries, crushed plums, violets, cedar, cocoa and exotic spice. The palate is rich and enveloping yet remarkably energetic, with silky tannins supporting concentrated dark fruit. Mineral tension and fresh acidity provide balance, leading to a long finish marked by notes of dark chocolate, liquorice and savoury herbs. He considered it one of the finest recent releases from the estate. " -- Vinous, Eric Guido

" James Suckling highlighted the wine's generous dark fruit profile, describing ripe blackberries and plums complemented by sweet spices and hints of chocolate. He noted its full body, velvety texture and ripe tannins, with a persistent finish that reflects the warmth of the vintage while maintaining freshness." -- James Suckling
