Pomino is one of the historic estates of the Marchesi Frescobaldi family, whose winemaking heritage in Tuscany spans more than 700 years. Located in the hills east of Florence at elevations of 450–700 metres above sea level, the Pomino estate is one of Tuscany's coolest wine-growing areas. Its high altitude, abundant rainfall and significant diurnal temperature variation make it uniquely suited to French grape varieties such as Pinot Noir, Merlot and Chardonnay. The estate gained international recognition in 1878 when Leonia degli Albizi Frescobaldi received a gold medal at the Paris Exposition for introducing French viticulture to the region. Today, Castello Pomino is renowned for producing elegant, cool-climate wines that combine freshness with refined structure. 

The 2021 Pomino Rosso DOC is a medium-bodied red blend led by Pinot Noir, complemented by Merlot and other traditional Bordeaux varieties permitted under the Pomino DOC regulations. Fermentation takes place under temperature-controlled conditions, followed by maturation in French oak barrels to enhance complexity while preserving the wine's vibrant fruit and freshness. The high-altitude vineyards contribute bright acidity, silky tannins and an elegant, Burgundian-inspired profile that distinguishes Pomino from most Tuscan reds.
