Founded in 1896, Eugenio Collavini is one of Friuli-Venezia Giulia's most historic and innovative wineries. Based in Corno di Rosazzo, in the heart of the Colli Orientali del Friuli, the estate gained international recognition under Manlio Collavini, whose pioneering work helped revive indigenous Friulian grape varieties such as Ribolla Gialla and Pignolo. Today, the winery is managed by the fourth generation, Giovanni and Luigi Collavini, who continue to balance innovation with the preservation of local winemaking traditions. The Pignolo is one of the estate's flagship red wines, produced from the rare indigenous Pignolo grape, once close to extinction due to its naturally low yields and powerful tannic structure. Grapes are partially air-dried for around 20 days to concentrate flavour before undergoing a lengthy fermentation. The wine is then matured for approximately five years in small oak casks, followed by at least two years of bottle ageing before release. This extended élevage results in a wine of remarkable structure, depth and longevity. " The wine was praised for its immense structure, concentration and longevity, noting that Pignolo requires significant bottle age to reveal its full complexity and rewards patience with remarkable depth and individuality.
