Tasting Note :

Domaine Robert Chevillon is one of the most revered family estates in Nuits-Saint-Georges, with a history dating back to the early 20th century. Today, the domaine is run by brothers Denis and Bertrand Chevillon, who have continued the family's reputation for producing some of the appellation's finest and most age-worthy Pinot Noirs.

The estate comprises approximately 13 hectares, including holdings in eight Premier Cru vineyards such as Les Saint-Georges, Les Vaucrains, Les Cailles and Les Pruliers. Alongside these prestigious crus, the Vieilles Vignes bottling is produced from a selection of old-vine parcels within the village appellation, with many vines exceeding 60 years of age. Traditional winemaking practices—including careful hand harvesting, gentle extraction and maturation in French oak (around 20–30% new barrels)—allow the wine to express the classic character of Nuits-Saint-Georges: structured, mineral and exceptionally long-lived.

Made from 100% Pinot Noir, the 2017 Vieilles Vignes reflects the charm of a balanced Burgundy vintage. The old vines provide excellent concentration while preserving freshness and elegance.

The wine displays a deep ruby colour with aromas of raspberry, black cherry, wild strawberry and red currant, complemented by notes of orange zest, rose petals, forest floor, sweet spice and earthy minerality. Medium to full-bodied, it possesses silky yet firm tannins, bright acidity and impressive purity of fruit. Layers of red berries, subtle savoury spice and mineral nuances lead to a long, refined finish. While more approachable than many Nuits-Saint-Georges in its youth, it retains the structure to reward extended cellaring.

Aromas of raspberries, small red berries, cherries, orange rind and sweet soil tones introduce Chevillon's excellent 2017 Nuits-Saint-Georges Vieilles Vignes, a medium-bodied, supple and expressive wine with an open-knit core of succulent fruit and fine-grained structuring tannins. As usual, it's an excellent representation of the appellation. " -- Wine Advocate

" The concentration that comes from old vines is present in this dense wine. Its tannins and structure are still young, offering bright acidity and red-berry flavors. The wine, with its dry core, will age. Drink from 2022." -- Wine Enthusiast
