Barbacàn is one of the leading artisanal estates in Valtellina, Lombardy, and has earned international acclaim for producing authentic, terroir-driven expressions of Chiavennasca (the local name for Nebbiolo). The winery is owned by the Triacca family, who cultivate a small collection of steep, dry-stone terraced vineyards in the Valgella subzone. Farming is carried out by hand on precipitous slopes, an approach often referred to as heroic viticulture.

The estate follows organic principles and employs spontaneous fermentations with indigenous yeasts, minimal sulphur additions and ageing in large neutral oak casks to preserve the purity of fruit and the character of each vineyard. Jazpémi is one of Barbacàn's single-vineyard bottlings from the Valgella DOCG, produced from old vines rooted in decomposed granite and schist soils that contribute remarkable aromatic lift and mineral precision.

The 2019 Jazpémi is made from 100% Nebbiolo (Chiavennasca). The grapes are hand-harvested, spontaneously fermented and aged in large, seasoned oak casks before bottling.

The excellent 2019 vintage delivers a refined and energetic mountain Nebbiolo. Aromas of wild strawberry, red cherry, cranberry and rose petals are intertwined with alpine herbs, crushed stone, orange peel and delicate spice. The palate is medium-bodied and beautifully transparent, with vibrant acidity, finely etched tannins and pronounced granite-driven minerality. Elegant rather than powerful, the wine finishes with exceptional length, savoury complexity and freshness, making it a superb expression of Valgella terroir.
