Maison Gamet is a family-owned grower Champagne estate based in Mardeuil, in the Vallée de la Marne. Although the estate was formally established in 1992 by Philippe Gamet and Fabienne Heucq, the family has been cultivating vineyards in Champagne for several generations. Today, the domaine comprises approximately 8.3 hectares spread across the villages of Mardeuil, Damery and Fleury-la-Rivière, with Pinot Meunier accounting for around 80% of the vineyard plantings. The estate is certified High Environmental Value (HVE) and Sustainable Viticulture in Champagne (VDC), reflecting its commitment to environmentally responsible farming. Cuvée Rocherets is one of Maison Gamet's single-parcel ("parcellaire") Champagnes, first introduced with the outstanding 2019 vintage. The wine is sourced exclusively from the Rocherets vineyard in Mardeuil, a west-facing parcel planted in 1971 on clay-limestone soils by Philippe Gamet's grandfather. The grapes are fermented naturally in oak barrels, undergo full malolactic fermentation and are matured for approximately 10 months on their lees in barrel before bottling. It is released as an Extra Brut, allowing the character of the vineyard and vintage to take centre stage. Produced from 100% Pinot Meunier, the 2019 Cuvée Rocherets is a distinctive expression of old-vine Meunier from the Vallée de la Marne. The warm yet balanced 2019 growing season delivered fruit of exceptional ripeness while preserving freshness. The bouquet reveals aromas of ripe orchard fruits, baked apple, pear, yellow plum and dates, complemented by notes of sweet spices, tobacco, toasted brioche and subtle pastry. On the palate, it is broad and textured, with vibrant acidity balancing its generous fruit. Layers of ripe stone fruit, spice and chalky minerality culminate in a long, savoury finish. Barrel fermentation adds depth and complexity without overshadowing the wine's freshness. " This cuvée evokes a baroque, flamboyant personality. The nose offers spices, ripe fruit, tobacco and dates. Rich, juicy and fleshy, with a vibrant, textured palate and a finish that tightens beautifully to restore balance." -- Gault & Milau |
