Founded in 1977 by the Rivetti family, La Spinetta has become one of Piedmont's most celebrated wineries. Under the leadership of Giorgio Rivetti, the estate evolved from producing Moscato d'Asti into one of Italy's benchmark producers of Barbaresco and Barolo. La Spinetta is recognised for meticulous vineyard management, low yields and a philosophy that combines traditional Nebbiolo with modern winemaking techniques. The 2020 Barbaresco DOCG is sourced primarily from vineyards in Neive, where calcareous marl soils and ideal south-facing exposures produce Nebbiolo of exceptional finesse and aromatic complexity. The wine is aged for approximately 20 months in French oak barriques followed by additional bottle ageing before release. It represents La Spinetta's classic Barbaresco and serves as an introduction to the estate's prestigious single-vineyard (Vürsù) bottlings. Made from 100% Nebbiolo, the 2020 Barbaresco is elegant, perfumed and structured. The warm yet balanced vintage produced a wine with remarkable purity of fruit while preserving the variety's hallmark freshness and firm tannic backbone. The bouquet reveals aromas of ripe cherry, wild raspberry, rose petals, violets, liquorice, mint and sweet spice, complemented by subtle notes of tobacco and earth. On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied with silky yet persistent tannins, vibrant acidity and a long, mineral finish. While approachable in its youth, the wine has the balance and structure to evolve gracefully over the next 15–20 years. " The 2020 Barbaresco shows rich fruit aromas of blackberry and dark currant with earthy nuances of potting soil, balsam herb and eucalyptus. The wine is polished and generous, with excellent balance and classic Nebbiolo structure." -- Wine Advocate " A great Barbaresco, destined for long ageing. Concentrated aromas of red fruits, fresh flowers, mint and tobacco. Full-bodied with purity, elegance and beautifully integrated tannins." -- James Suckling " Described as refined and beautifully balanced, with vibrant red fruit, floral lift, savoury spice and finely sculpted tannins that carry through a long, energetic finish.
