Penfolds, one of Australia's most iconic wine producers, was founded in 1844 by Dr Christopher and Mary Penfold. Renowned globally for wines such as Grange, Penfolds expanded its winemaking ambitions beyond Australia through its "Wine of the World" programme. In collaboration with the family-owned Champagne Thiénot, Penfolds entered Champagne with a range of prestige cuvées before introducing its inaugural Champagne Cuvée Brut NV. The Non-Vintage Cuvée Brut is produced under the direction of Penfolds Chief Winemaker Peter Gago, working alongside Champagne Thiénot's team. The wine is sourced from carefully selected vineyards across the Champagne region, blending fruit from multiple crus to create a style that combines Penfolds' philosophy of consistency and generosity with the elegance and finesse of Champagne. This release marks a significant milestone in Penfolds' evolution as an international fine wine producer. The NV Cuvée Brut is a blend of 45% Pinot Noir, 35% Pinot Meunier and 20% Chardonnay, incorporating reserve wines from the 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020 harvests. It is produced using the traditional method and aged on lees before disgorgement. Clear straw in colour with a fine, persistent mousse, the wine is fresh, elegant and approachable. Aromas of white flowers, yuzu citrus, chamomile and roasted nuts lead into a palate of lemon meringue, citrus sherbet, raspberry pastille, nougat and subtle vanilla. Bright acidity and a creamy texture are balanced by a clean, mineral finish, making it equally suited as an aperitif or with seafood and light poultry dishes.
