Domaine Jean-Claude Ramonet is one of Burgundy's most iconic family estates and is regarded as one of the world's finest producers of Chardonnay. Founded in the early 20th century by Pierre Ramonet, the domaine established its reputation through exceptional holdings in Chassagne-Montrachet, including Grand Cru vineyards such as Montrachet, Bâtard-Montrachet and Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet, together with numerous Premier Cru sites. Today, the estate is managed by Noël and Jean-Claude Ramonet, who continue the family's meticulous approach to vineyard management and traditional winemaking. Alongside its celebrated Côte de Beaune wines, the domaine produces a small quantity of Mâcon-Péronne, sourced from vineyards in the Mâconnais. This wine reflects the Ramonet philosophy of precision and terroir expression, offering remarkable quality and value. Fermentation takes place with indigenous yeasts, followed by maturation in a combination of stainless steel tanks and older French oak barrels, preserving freshness while adding texture and complexity. The 2022 vintage benefited from warm, dry conditions, producing healthy fruit with excellent concentration balanced by vibrant acidity. Produced from 100% Chardonnay, the 2022 Mâcon-Péronne is an elegant and mineral-driven white Burgundy. The wine opens with aromas of white peach, pear, green apple and lemon zest, complemented by white flowers, crushed stone, toasted hazelnut and a subtle touch of butter from lees ageing. Medium-bodied, it combines ripe orchard fruit with lively citrus acidity and a refined, creamy texture. The palate is energetic and well-balanced, finishing with chalky minerality and impressive persistence. Compared with many wines from the Mâconnais, Ramonet's interpretation shows greater precision, restraint and ageing potential while retaining the generous fruit character of the vintage. Drinking Window: 2024–2030. While approachable upon release, the 2022 has sufficient concentration, acidity and mineral backbone to develop additional complexity over the next five to seven years, gaining notes of honey, toasted almond and brioche while retaining its freshness. |
