About Domaine Henri Jouan Domaine Henri Jouan farms just three hectares, and for decades much of the fruit went to a long-standing négociant partner they’ve worked with for 65 years. With recent winery expansions, the family now bottles more of their own production while still honouring that historic relationship. Their tiny cellar still houses a century-old wooden press, a reminder of the estate’s gentle, traditional approach. Philippe keeps to his father’s philosophy of soft pressing to avoid harsh tannins and practices full destemming, now fine-tuned by returning a small portion of stems (up to 10%) for added complexity. In the vineyards, treatments have been reduced and selective deleafing on the north side helps keep oidium in check—thoughtful refinements that respect both heritage and terroir. Tasting Notes Mid crimson. A little darker-fruited than the Morey Clos Sorbe – lightly peppery/stemmy. Firm, dry, smoothly textured tannins. Already so polished, even though it needs time in bottle to become more complex. Pure and fragrant on the long finish. |
