The Paring: Successor to The Cult Favorite Wine Screaming Eagle
The Paring has an extraordinary pedigree which is owned by the same owner as Screaming Eagle, the most famous cult wine in Napa. The winery was born in 2006 out of a desire to explore, experiment, and excite without rules. Made from the vineyard blocks that are either too young or don't fit into the vintage style of the highly acclaimed Jonata and The Hilt wines, The Paring is essentially a "chip off the old block." The grapes are sourced primarily from three Santa Barbara regions on the vanguard: Santa Ynez Valley, Sta. Rita Hills, and Santa Maria Valley.
A natural winemaker with a free-spirited outlook.
Matt has a degree in Soil Science from the University of Vermont and has worked at Staglin in Napa, and Craggy Range in New Zealand. His approach to winemaking is grounded in the vineyard, where he seems almost to be a part of the vineyard itself. Matt comes to wine with an untethered philosophy, a mindset embodied in The Paring. When he's not working with The Paring, he can be found making the wines for its big sister wineries, Jonata and The Hilt.
Wines that offer perfect balance and enjoyment.
The Paring wines offer a wide range of styles and vineyards. The Paring Red and The Pairing Sauvignon Blanc explore different blending opportunities, where experimentation with site and varieties is key. From the precise and complex Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from Sta. Rita Hills and Santa Maria Valley, to the deliciously rich and versatile Syrah from Santa Ynez Valley, each wine lot is blended and aged together to achieve balance and enjoyment.
